"Good things are not made. They happen" Producer, actor Dwarakish was telling this while talking about his latest venture Apatha Mitra. So is this film that screens the runaway hit pair Kalla-Kulla (Vishnuvardhan - Dwarakish) together after 19 long years along with a remarkable performance by actress Soundarya. Unfortunately Apatha Mitra was her last film too. Lively Vishnu, splendid Soundarya, comic Dwarakish added with catchy music by Gurukiran keeps everyone on their toes with nail biting consequences.

Aptha Mitra, based on Malayalam movie Mani Chitratal, is a suspense film blended with horror making it a perfect thriller. Film revolves around a haunted palace. Ramesh (Ramesh), an engineer buys the palace that has historic background. Everyone believes that the spirit of Nagavalli, a dancer is captivated in a room of that palace. Ganga (Soundarya), out of curiosity opens that locked room with the help of Soumya (Prema), the daughter of the watchman. Then start the troubles. People living there hear anklet sound during night and haunting Telugu song 'raa raa.' Ramesh narrowly escapes from death. Ganga undergoes various accidents. It is Vijay (Vishnuvardhan) who comes to Ramesh's house to spend his holidays saves Ramesh during most of the consequences. Vijay also happens to be a psychiatrist. Gripped direction of P. Vasu wont disclose any clues till the interval and you tend to suspect everyone from Soumya to Ganga to Vijay to warlock Ramachandra Acharya (Avinash). The actual thread starts opening up post interval. And you just wont be able to guess the climax!

Aptha Mitra is not just a horror movie. It has loads of comic relief, curiosity, mischievous moments and pleasing music. Best of all, the scientific justification make it more authentic. Soundarya, a phenomenal actress has performed brilliantly especially during post interval. From facial gesture to body language- it is just superb. You see her as a ferocious lady and the very next moment as a helpless housewife! She scares you at places; at the same time she looks so innocent and beautiful. Soundarya leaves an unforgettable impression on you. It is not only Soundarya but even Vishnuvardhan and other actors and actresses including Ramesh, Prema, Avinash, Dwarakish and Prameela Joshai who created their own niche. Vishnuvardhan as a psychiatrist looks brilliant and very serious as always but he makes you laugh throughout. Accompanied by Dwarakish, they remind their yesteryears. Ramesh as a modern generation guy has done a good job. Director P. Vasu has made adequate changes from its original version to suite the star images without compromising on the narration and not letting the story lose its grip.

Often we see the music and background scores kill the movie. Particularly in horror/suspense films where background score plays the key role. Contrast to this, Aptha Mitra has brilliant work by Gurukiran that makes every frame of the film double its impact. Also the art direction and cinematography. One can see the perfection throughout the film in all departments. Multi-starrer Aptha Mitra is a perfect treat for people who wants quality entertainer
